Interesting that Calderwood and McClaren have the same agent link here Rod Petrie has stated his intention to keep Colin Calderwood as the manager of Hibernian, despite a fresh, public expression of interest from Nottingham Forest. Calderwood, who has been in charge at Easter Road since October 2010, has been the subject of intense speculation over his future in recent weeks, with both Forest manager Steve McClaren and Birmingham City boss Chris Hughton keen to take the Hibs number one back down south to work as their assistant. Reports over various bids from both clubs have been persistently reported in the press but Petrie, Hibs' chairman, says the Edinburgh club is moving in the right direction under Calderwood and says no side has been invited to hold talks with the manager. Former England boss McClaren was quoted on Monday as saying both Forest and Calderwood wanted a move to happen, saying: "We are trying to negotiate with Hibs but they do not want to lose him. He is a good manager, a good coach and that is why we want him. "So we are trying to get Colin out of Hibs and it is very difficult. He wants to come here and it is the only place he wants to come. “There is a lot of competition for Colin but there is a willingness on our side to do it and we want to do it. We have to be patient and hope that Hibs will talk, negotiate and get Colin where he wants to go.” But those claims, as well as reports of an increased offer from the English club, have been flatly denied by the Hibs chairman. “Mr McClaren is in dangerous territory,” said Petrie. “Nottingham Forest know that their only official approach to Hibernian - a phone call on Friday 24 June - was rejected. “There is nothing to negotiate. They do not have permission to speak to the Hibernian manager. No club has permission to speak to the Hibernian manager. “But then, McClaren's words were probably spoken, not by him but by his agent. The same agent who represents Colin Calderwood. The mysterious 'third man' in the picture taken in a hotel lobby over three weeks ago.” In the same statement, Petrie went on to maintain that Calderwood was wanted at Easter Road and says a run of form towards the end of the 2010/11 season proved his credentials, after a difficult start to his tenure. “Played 10, won six, drawn two, lost two,” opened Petrie. “These are the sorts of statistics which show why Hibernian wants Colin Calderwood as its manager. “This was the run of results between the close of the transfer window in January and the split. A selective quoting of statistics, maybe, but their relevance is the fact that these were the matches when the chips were down and the club needed results. “Hibernian signed six players in the January transfer window for Colin Calderwood to provide the nucleus of the team that he wanted. And Colin Calderwood achieved the results we all wanted. “We have now stripped away the unworkable legacy saddled upon the club by the previous incumbent. Colin has added to the core of the team he signed in January. “Like every manager, he wants to continually adjust his squad - and the work goes on with seven weeks still to the end of the summer transfer window. “Hibernian wants Colin Calderwood as its manager. Hibernian has Colin Calderwood as its manager.” |

FFS lets not get ionto a war over him! If Forest want him let them have him! Surely CH has other options! Just heard Mark Bowen has been demoted at Fulham, some on here had him down as a tactician of world class pedigree, try for him! KRO |

If Hughton wants him we should compete with Forest as hard as we can to get him. The question is how much Calderwood wants to come to us. I think we need to make a good offer and leave it at that. Hopefully Calderwood will like the package, feel Birmingham is the right move for him and want to work with Hughton. But what ever happens dont just hand over a wad of cash and settle for a coach who is just taking a big payday. Calderwood must be motivated and want to come and work at Birmingham. It will be up to him to motivate the players. No coach can do this if they arent motivated and ambitious themselves. :blues: |

I think its Hibs who are doing their best to hold onto their manager, and who can blame them, But I think sooner rather than later he will be at Blues. |

Hibs fans are turning on Calderwood, he more or less said last night that he wants away and he is urging clubs to offer a decent amount in compo or don't bother contacting Hibs. I now want him to go and if he does go I'd want him at Birmingham as he is a good coach and has an eye for a player. After this whole thing I now have a new hatred for Steve McClaren lol. |

Steve McLaren He played for them He was manager last time, this time it would be as coach. He probably knows being a No.2 is his strength. Those are the reasons for. However there is one reason against - he was not liked by Forest fans. Not liked at all. |

I still don't quite understand why he'd want to leave a management job (i.e. the top level of the non-playing staff ladder) to take a step down to become an assistant manager? What does he gain, aside from reduced responsibilities? |

I'd agree with Birmingham > Hibernian but Championship = SPL IMHO. Even with that said, you don't see League One managers looking for assistant positions in the Championship. I just don't 'get it'. |

What can he possibly achieve in Scotland apart from one the two domestic Cups and a brief run in the Europa League ?? Scottsh clubs do terrible in Europe The SP Title never ever goes outside of the Auld Firm.....and hasn't since the early 80's More money at a club like Blues,.....plus an opportunity to work at a high profile club and in the PL No brainer |

Depends what you look for in a league. In the SPL it is a two horse race, year in year out, the others have no chance of breaking into the top 2 and there is no prizes for finishing third. The championship is a very competitive league and surely striving for promotion to the premiership would bring more job satisfaction than making up the numbers north of the border. |

But as an assistant, he's always the forgotten man - whereas if he did actually accomplish something in Scotland, he'd have his name next to it. You could also say the same about being in the Premiership. That has an almost impenetrable top 6 (ish) and all most managers can hope for is to battle against relegation and finish in the 8-17 positions. What's the point in that? Where's the glory aside from the money? Not only that, but as a manager it's easier to pick up another job. It tends to be harder to go from manager, to assistant, to manager again. |

We have to act quickly and sort out a compensation package for Colin Calderwood now that Mclies compensation has been sorted, poor old Chris is currently on his tod, and we are losing valuable time. Chris is good but he's not superman!! |

Chris was "on his tod" at Newcastle for a very long period. He can deal with it, and being in the mix with the players at this point, is - imo, the better place for him than sitting in his office letting his number two be out on the pitch. Pannu is minding the fort and CH is gelling his future team. |

To be fair Hughton had the opportunity to retain Andy Watson as his assistant, I wouldn't have been opposed to that although I can see the benefit of wanting a clean slate. |

I can't see anybody giving up a good job to come to a basket case financial mess like us. The only way to get an assistant manager, will be to find someone currently out of work ( as the new manager was ) who might feel he has nothing to loose. |

I sincerely hope that some of this money is earmarked for calderwood's release. Chris Hughton needs help in gelling the squad raising the fitness levels and to also identify players that we should be looking at. On Rj twitter page he wrote how easy the 1st day back was. I wasn't expecting to read that as I always thought the 1st day back was meant to be tough. |
